The 5 Sources of Income Thriving
Social Media Influencers Bank On
Aspiring to explore the galaxy, celebrate a gold medal, or revel on stage have all taken a backseat to today's internet-fueled celebrity. The vast majority of young Americans are dazzled by the allure of becoming an influencer on social media.

Nearly universal access to these platforms creates opportunities for anyone to seek fame without leaving home. Success won't come easy, though, so just how viable is this career path?

You may be wondering what an influencer even does aside from posting filtered Instagram photos and quirky TikTok videos. An influencer shapes public opinion with their expertise in a specific area of interest. They establish and curate a brand image, then use their influence to promote products and ultimately make a living.

At the top tier, influencer millionaires are just as valuable in advertising as traditional celebrities. However, most influencers won't achieve that level of recognition, yet may still earn enough to ditch conventional workplaces. The five streams of revenue below demystify how they do it!

1) Sponsorships

The most significant chunk of change received by influencers is usually through company sponsorships. Typically, a check is part of the deal whenever an influencer agrees to promote a product for another brand.

The amount varies, but influencers with a significant amount of followers have reported making thousands of dollars in this manner, especially if they forge an ongoing relationship as a brand ambassador. Most influencers are strategic about what sponsorships they’ll accept, ensuring whatever they promote matches the brand that they have established for themselves.

2) Affiliate Marketing

Sometimes a company will provide an individual with a personalized link leading to their product, often including an attractive discount. The influencer posts that link and then receives a profit percentage whenever one of their followers completes a purchase.

These amounts are usually small on their own but can add up over time if the link gains enough interest and exposure. Many businesses make it easy to sign up for affiliate marketing rather than cherry-picking their favorite representatives.

3) Selling Products

As influencers develop their personal brand and become desirable authorities within a niche, they often market related products. These might be in the form of ebooks, courses, music, or a line of personalized goods.

Since many of these products are digital, an influencer can continue reaping passive income without adding to their inventory. Instead, by maintaining an online presence, influencers can continuously promote their existing products.

4) YouTube Ads

If the influencer makes videos on YouTube, there’s an opportunity to make money from each view that includes advertisements. Note that this means anyone using an ad-blocker doesn’t count.

While most YouTubers don’t make the bulk of their money via ads, those with a higher number of subscribers will benefit the most. Much like selling products, this can become a passive way to keep earning even on older videos as they accrue additional views.

5) Crowdfunding

Some influencers choose to accept donations from followers eager to support new content. PayPal is favored for one-time contributions, while platforms such as Patreon and Ko-fi specifically cater to recurring contributions every month.

Influencers can entice their followers by offering memberships with extra goodies such as exclusive updates and content. For larger projects, influencers may turn to Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
As you can see, influencers utilize various methods to create positive cash flow. It takes a lot of work for successful influencers to establish themselves, maintain their brand, create engaging products, edit visual media, plus all the bookkeeping required to run a business.

With enough time, ambition, charisma, and effort, becoming an influencer can be a valid and rewarding career path for the lucky few able to align those stars.
